Linsey: The most important thing that I learned about cooking is that different people with different amounts of taste buds will have different experiences in tasting food, and that the chef will have to keep this in mind when creating the food. I learned that culture affects a person’s tasting experiences greatly. When working as a team in the kitchen I learned that you have to make sure that everyone is working on different things so when we put them together we can make it the most efficient possible. For food such as onion pancakes, we served it alongside with some carrot slices to decorate the plate and make it look better. I would like to try to make steak and lemon sticks in the future because this time in the kitchen our group did not have enough time to make everything we want.

Sara: I learned that because taste experience varies upon different people, you can only encourage others to taste your food but you cannot force people to like your food because they may not be experiencing the same taste as you. I also learned that culture affects a person’s view on food greatly and will also affect the type of food that they know how to make. I learned that when working in the kitchen as a team, I will have to think about the difficulty of the food that I want to make and to see if it suits my team mates. For food such as butter cream cake, we decorated the plate with whips of cream around so it looks more aesthetically pleasing. Lemon pound cake will be something that I would like to make next time.

Elaine: The most important thing I learned about cooking is that people from different cultural backgrounds may have different food tasting experiences with the same type of food and this can also be influenced by their past experiences with tasting food. I learned that culture will affect a person’s taste buds and define what food they think is weird. I learned that when working as a group in the kitchen, it is very hard to keep the space tidy and you will have to attempt to keep everything organized. When it comes to plating, for many food such as mashed tomatoes and eggs and fried rice, we decided to not include fancy plating and keep the food simple. Next time, I would like to make food such as egg pudding and glaze cake, which takes a lot of time. I’m pretty sure that it would be a fun experience and will attempt to make it when I have learnt better cake baking skills
